Poppy power

Morning Bods :)

When Jane asked me if I would design for her, using the lovely floral images from her shop Janey's Digi Designs, it confirmed what I have known for a long while. She is clearly two seeds short of a packet of poppies! But I've humoured her, as the images are pretty darn fab, and I thought it would be a fun to push my colouring boundaries. (Aren't flowers just beautiful? Doing them justice is the challenge for me.) So, you can expect to see a few more floral numbers, but lucky for me, I can play with them as and when. Whoot.

On Monday, I promised you a Wynj, and I do like to keep my word....

I needed to stay away from home a week or so ago. I don't get out much these days, so it's been a while since I stayed in a hotel. And even longer since I stayed in one alone, therefore, being allowed to unlock the door, which falls firmly under Blue Job Categorisation. Now, don't get excited. I know that hotel room doors are often unlocked with a plastic card these days, that happened way back when I worked in them. But the next bit is new.

So, I arrived. I checked in. Although that was complicated. Name, Nationality, Car Registration AND Signature. Hello! That's like the check out lady asking me how many bags I used this week. I've been counting for years. But every time I get asked that. Every. Time. My mind goes completely blank and I'm left pointing at bags, with a mouth like a goldfish, until Sweet Cheeks steps up to the mark.

Anyway. I'm in. I'm at the hotel room door. I'm swiping my key CARD, coz I'm modern and 'wiv' it and I'm in the room. At this point, I should point out that it's gone 10pm and the sun has firmly got his zzzzzz on. Yep, Dark. Pitch, in fact.

Anyway. I'm in. Bags are in (Blue Job). Door is shut. It's dark. I mentioned that, right? It's dark. I reach for the light switch, as there's always a light switch by the door. Nothing happens. I flick it again. Nuffin. Oh well, I'll mention it to Reception on the way out in the morning. I scrabble for the bathroom light switch, which is also, always, close to the door. Nuffin. I will confess, my thoughts on what I'd say in Reception in the morning, got a bit sharper.

Anyway. I dump everything on the floor and stumble across the room, in the hope I'll find a lamp, on a table, without breaking my foot on the bed. And oh joy of joys, it comes on. Whoop. Reception heaves an inaudible sigh of relief. I head back to the door to get baggage. I mentioned that's a Blue Job, right?

And what did I notice, next to the light switch?

What the? It's flamin' darker than a dark thing, in a dark place. Insert Card for Power!! How are you supposed to see that exactly?!!

  20. Your card is beautiful and colored to perfection. I have no idea why you have to use a card to turn on the lights but I can't help wondering what do they save?

  22. Been there got the tshirt, I went to a works function with overnight stay and the room itself had light but the bathroom didn't and I didnt notice the card lot so I showered and got ready for the party with only ambient light from the open bathroom door, later after a few shandys I mentioned that such an expensive hotel should have lights in the bathroom and watched all the other bright sparks who ad found the slot fall about laughing, felt a right numpty til one of them whispered," I thought it was just me that had done that" so you are definitely not alone lol. Hugs, Amanda x

p.s. It also helps if you put the card in the right way round which The Doc dosen't always do.Especially when he has had a few grappas.

  29. Love love love your card, that bright pop of color on the simple white is gorgeous, and no, I have never seen a check in card used like that. I think it is just so they have something to laugh about knowing we aren't gonna know what to do.

  31. You really don't get out much do you? Those power savers have been in hotel rooms for years and years dear Fluff. Perhaps VUH has activated them in the past (when he was bringing luggage into a room) as part of his blue jobs but they really have been in existence for a V E R Y long time. They are to save energy because hotel residents leave the lights on when they are not in the room and if they want to get back in again, they have to take the card key with them thus turning off the power. It's a green thing (as opposed to a blue thing or a pink thing). You may want to add another column to your colour chart!
Anyway - I had to go out and then I had to have a nap and then go out again. But I'm back to finish checking out your recent posts and what a beauty this one is. A splendid poppy by Jane and splendiferous (or should that be splendiforous? colouring by you! And the perfect CAS + doodles design. Lovely, Fluff! Hugs, Lesley
